Bad News -- pixiv Blockage

Update:
The block has been lifted, and does not seem to have been intentionally placed. It's hard to say what happened, as we have been indexing their site without issue since 2009, but their willingness to work with us to get the problem resolved was awesome. We really appreciate it.

Our thanks go out to everyone who helped us bring this issue to their attention so quickly, and to the wonderful people at pixiv. May their site continue to thrive~

Well, I hate to say it, but pixiv seems to have blocked the update server... I could just change IPs, the block is very specific, but that's not the point. We can only hope they will come to their senses and allow such a useful service to continue indexing their site...

It seems incredibly short sighted for them to block a service which makes their site significantly more accessible to the community, especially so soon after they expanded internationally... I've sent them a few messages in different ways, so we'll see if they feel like replying.

If you find the pixiv index useful, re-blog this, re-tweet the relevant messages on the SauceNAO twitter feed, e-mail them, and/or do what ever you can to GET THEIR ATTENTION.

Spread the word. If they can't hear us, nothing will change.

  1. you're helping them drive traffic to their site, increasing ad revenue and it's such a useful service even pixiv can incorporate it into their own site. :( they think you're harming them? are they pursuing pixort . net and pixivrank . net as well?

  2. This is from the pixiv staff. We have heard of your complaints.

Frankly speaking, we are just as confused as you are, as your IP is not in our block list after the check (since it isn't in the list we can't do anything), and we have no idea how this whole server block came into play. If any you might have to investigate this problem with your server admin/vendor about this.

Please let us know if we are missing anything. Thank you for your cooperation.

  3. levitation, is there an email I can reach you at? I'm not going to post the IP which was blocked publicly. Alternatively, you can reach me at xamayon@gmail.com

I'm glad that this does not seem to be an intentional block on your side, so I'd love to get this resolved.

    Thanks~

  4. I see the addon doesn't appear to work with firefox 8. Any chance of a fix?

  5. In what way does it not work? I'm using it with FF 8 and have not encountered any problems, so your comment is the first I've heard of any issue.

  6. It didn't work in the way that firefox wouldn't allow me to install it, flashing an error message that it wasn't compatible with Firefox 8. However, it works today, so I assume a reboot fixed the problem.

  8. what about iqdb.org ? Do you have any idea why it has stopped working and will it work again?

    1. Yes, the server IQDB uses was experiencing severe hardware problems, and they decided to move to a new hosting provider. It took a couple days to get to the point where moving seemed like the only solution, and on top of that initial downtime, it takes quite a long time to move data off a failing server. That said, I'd expect things to be back up and running by the end of today or tomorrow. (assuming no new problems arise)
